The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
The BJP had fielded Prakashbhai Varmora from the Dhrangadhra assembly seat in Surendranagar district. In front of him was Chhatrasinh Gunjariya of Congress. Prakashbhai Varmora of BJP defeated Chhatrasinh Gunjariya of INC by 32,973 votes. BJP candidate got 1,02,844 votes while Congress got 69,871 votes here.
11 including AAP-BSP candidate forfeited their bail
AAP came third in this election, its candidate Vaghjibhai Kaila got 28,127 votes, which was 13.37 percent of the total votes. Kaila could not save his bail. Apart from him, the deposits of ten other candidates including the BSP candidate were also forfeited. BSP candidate Samrat Jairaj Prabhubhai got only 1,524 votes. Whereas, NOTA got 3,613 votes here.
Congress got victory in 2017
The Congress had won the Dhrangadhra assembly seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, Congress had nominated Parsottam Savaria as its candidate from this seat. He defeated BJP’s Jairam Bhai Songra by 13,000 votes. A total of 11 candidates were in the fray here. Apart from these two, the deposits of the other nine candidates were forfeited. In 2012, the BJP was able to win from here and in 2007, the Congress candidate was successful. Earlier in 1995, 1998 and 2002, this seat was held by the BJP for three consecutive terms. Chhaganlal Patel of Janata Dal won from here in 1990. In the total 14 elections held so far on this seat, BJP has won five times and Congress four times. Whereas Nagindas Manekchand Shah had won thrice as an independent candidate. Nagindas had won here in 1972, 1975 and 1980.
Congress had won four seats in Surendranagar district in 2017.
In the last assembly elections, the Congress got an edge in Surendranagar. Congress candidates had won four out of five seats in the district. At the same time, the BJP candidate was successful in winning one seat.
